Fertilizer group spent over $212K lobbying in 1Q

Fertilizer Institute spent over $212,000 lobbying federal government in first quarter

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The main trade group for the fertilizer industry spent more than $212,000 lobbying the federal government in the first quarter, according to a disclosure form.
The Fertilizer Institute, which represents more than 175 producers, importers and retailers, lobbied on bills related to renewable energy, mortgage relief, clean water and railroad competition.

Besides Congress, the group lobbied the Agriculture Department and the Environmental Protection Agency during the first three months of the year, according to the form filed April 21 with the House clerk's office.

The institute's members include ConAgra Foods Inc., CF Industries Holdings Inc. and Terra Industries Inc.
